  • Cover blocks are correctly positioned, firmly seated and have not settled into soft or waterlogged ground.

6. Remove Standing Water from the Formwork

Removing standing water helps maintain the designed concrete mix proportions and limits unnecessary moisture exposure to reinforcement immediately before concreting. Prior to concreting:

  • Pump or sweep out any accumulated rainwater.

  • Inspect the formwork for areas where water may collect around the reinforcement cage.

  • Ensure shuttering joints are adequately sealed to minimise further water ingress before the pour.

7. Obtain Final Engineer Approval Before Concrete Placement

Before the pour is finalised, get a simple visual sign-off from your site engineer or supervisor confirming: storage was proper, rust condition is acceptable, bar position matches drawings, and cover blocks are correctly placed.
